Martin Holtmann is Manager for the Financial and Private Sector Department of the Independent Evaluation Group (World Bank Group).  

Before joining IEG, he was IFC Country Manager for Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, Global Sector Manager for MSME Finance and Digital Finance in IFC’s Financial Institutions Group, and Lead Financial Specialist at CGAP. Previously, he worked as Managing Director of a German development consulting firm and was one of the co-founders of the ProCredit Group of SME banks. This included 12 years as resident advisor in East Africa, Latin America, and Russia. Mr. Holtmann has been on the faculty of the Boulder MFT Program since 1996 and taught courses on labor and organizational economics at Trier University (Germany). He is one of the core authors of the 2022 World Development Report, “Financing for an Equitable Recovery.” Mr. Holtmann holds Master’s degrees from Trier University (Economics) and Harvard University (Public Administration).
