Eskender Zeleke is Head of the Independent Evaluation Function at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), leading independent evaluations of investment operations, country engagement, and institutional strategy. He brings extensive experience from multilateral development banks, including senior private sector roles at the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), covering infrastructure, financial intermediaries, sustainable finance, and climate-related investments. At AIIB, he has led major institutional evaluations, including the Bank’s flagship evaluation of its COVID-19 Crisis Recovery Facility, helping strengthen accountability, institutional learning, and evidence-based decision-making. He actively contributes to the international evaluation community and promotes the use of evidence to improve development outcomes. Drawing on a multidisciplinary background in finance, engineering, and economics, he bridges investment operations and evaluation to support effective strategy, stronger institutions, and greater development impact.
