Mr. Ajith Abeysekera currently holds the position of Director General, Department of External Resources, under the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies. He counts on over 30 years of experience in different departments and Ministries in the public service. He is a Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Planning Service (SLPS).
Mr. Abeysekera joined the Sri Lanka Planning Service (SLPS) in January 1994 as an Assistant Director and worked in regional, sub-national and national levels covering many agencies and departments including Divisional Secretariat Badulla, Department of National Planning, Department of National Budget, Department of Public Enterprise, and Department of Fiscal Policy.
He holds a Master’s Degree in International Development Studies from the Graduate Institute of Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo Japan. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Sub National Level Development Planning from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Mr. Abeysekera was also attached to the United Nations University, Tokyo Japan for six months as an Intern during October 2002 - March 2003. He is a graduate from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka with B.Sc (Hons) in Physics, Mathematics and Industrial Management.
During his career, he engaged in policy related development matters and contributed to several higher level committees and participated in several foreign delegations and has undergone a number of local and foreign training programmes relating to regional and sub-national level development, project formulation and appraisal, infrastructure regulations, resources management and budgeting, revenue mobilization, financial programming and policies, and macro fiscal planning, etc.
