Dr. Yurendra Basnett is the Principal Evaluation Specialist at the Asian Development Bank’s Independent Evaluation Department. Prior to that, he was the Senior Public Management Specialist responsible for leading ADB programs supporting economic reforms; Senior Country Economist at ADB’s Indonesia Resident Mission where he led the preparation of ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy for Indonesia 2020-2024 and the flagship study on the impact of fourth industrial revolution; and Country Economist at ADB’s Papua New Guinea Resident Mission where he advised the government on macroeconomic policy, participated in the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Article IV missions, and co-authored IMF’s special issues paper on economic growth.
Prior to joining ADB in 2015, he was Research Fellow at the International Economic Development Group of the Overseas Development Institute in London where led research on trade, growth and structural transformation and contributed to the European Report on Development.
He earned his PhD in Development Economics from the University of Cambridge, and his MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science where he received the William Robson Award.
